About Twinks Sticks |

Twinks Sticks has grown from one man's passion for everything wood. Twink's love affair for stick making started almost forty years ago. When as a young man he met a Scout leader who carried with him a simple thumbstick that was crowned with the most intriguing top. The "V" section of the stick was twisted on both tines. Twink vowed to one day have such a stick. Well along the meandering path of life Twink moved to Eridge, in East Sussex, to work as a forester. What better enviroment to nurture a developing interest in stickmaking. Twink was also a Scout leader during this time and started to impart his knowledge onto the boys, gradually the word got around that a Scout leader was doing something interesting with wood and he started to get invited to demonstrate his talent at camps and this led to jamborees. As time went by there started to become too much equipment for one man to handle so Twink started to invite his son, Mik, along for the ride. Gradually this developed into a two man operation, although not a serious affair, it was the shape of things to come. One day, Mik decided to make a stick and with much encouragement from his father finished a cobra, well from that time on Mik hasn't looked back and is really hooked on stickmaking. | |||||||||||||||||||
Now both Twink and Mik demonstrate their craft at national and county shows. They belong to the British Stickmakers Guild and take part in National Competition, run by the Guild. The pair also belong to The Saxon Stickmakers and the Sussex Woodcraft Society. Mik (a committee member for the Saxons) takes an active role in promoting his craft in the news letters of all three societies. Twinkhas been filmed for a country style program, again talking about (something he does very well!) his love for the woods. Meanwhile, Mik has gone "online" (as you can see) and joined the American Stickmakers Association, a really friendly online community of stickmakers, that are willing to share their knowledge and experiences. Again, Mik contributes to this list, willingly. Recently Mik has recieved many commissions and is currently working on a project for the WoodCarver magazine. This Website is a reflection of the interest that has taken hold of both Father and Son and won't let go, please enjoy. Last updated 07 May 2001 © Mik Strevens 25/6/2000 |
